  • Why communication is key to sustainable meeting success

    One of the first tips I share with event professionals who are beginning to plan sustainable meetings and events is to remember to tell everyone what they are trying to accomplish (i.e. strategies they are using to minimize the environmental footprint). And then I tell them to ensure that afterwards, they express to everyone involved how well they did (i.e. how much waste was diverted, energy saved, etc.).

    The first ALT Hotel to be built outside of Quebec is now open and welcoming guests at Canada’s leading airport, the Toronto Pearson International Airport. The modern 13-floor, 153-room hotel occupies a prime location adjacent to the airport terminals at the end of the LINK train line that runs every five minutes, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

  • Metro Toronto Convention Centre to welcome Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference

    Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference 2012 (WPC) will take place July 8-12 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. An estimated 15,000 attendees representing technology companies in 156 countries will be in attendance. WPC 2012 is set to be three times bigger than the last time the event was in Toronto in 2004.

    The British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (bcIMC) and the Board of Directors of Delta Hotels and Resorts are pleased to announce that industry veteran Kenneth M. Greene has been named President & Chief Executive Officer of Delta Hotels and Resorts, one of Canada’s leading hotel management companies. Ken will officially assume his role in September 2012.

This is just one of many technological upgrades being addressed by the Centre as they undergo a major renovation project to modernize the Centre and upgrade customer service.

    As a speaker, I’m always thrilled to see that a conference or meeting is using a mobile app to connect with attendees and offer helpful event information. It can eliminate the need for promotional conference totes, folders and, most importantly, reams of paper. Score one for the planet!
