The Vancouver Convention Centre has been selected as a 2020 Center of Excellence by EXHIBITOR Magazine, recognizing North America’s best convention centres for trade shows and events. The facility, owned and operated by B.C. Pavilion Corporation, is the only Canadian venue to be part of the first annual Centers of Excellence list.
Alongside 19 other recipients, the Vancouver Convention Centre was selected based on evaluation in five categories of criteria: Facility & Functionality, Location & Accommodations, Service & Execution, Expansions & Upgrades, and Honors & Awards. The evaluation process also included a survey of event planners, show organizers and exhibit managers who have recently hosted events at the considered facilities.
“We are immensely proud to receive this acknowledgement and be amongst such a prestigious group of facilities,” said Craig Lehto, General Manager, Vancouver Convention Centre. “Meeting the needs of our clients through event space and service is the foundation of our organization, and it has been through our team’s passion and commitment to excellence that we have been able to continue innovating as our industry grows and evolves.”
Situated centrally on Vancouver’s downtown waterfront, the venue’s connected East and West buildings offer a combined total of 466,500 ft2 (43,340 m2) of flexible meeting, exhibition and plenary space and is host to upwards of 550 events a year including notable events such as TED, Women Deliver 2019, and the Vancouver International Auto Show. The only double LEED Platinum certified convention centre, the Convention Centre is also recognized for its global leadership in environmental sustainability.
The facility has been designed to accommodate events of varying size, scope and complexity, ensuring that even large-scale trade and consumer shows are provided with a seamless experience from move-in to move-out. New innovative systems such as the unique Voyage Control™ program which coordinates vehicles and freight accessing loading bays aim to provide effortless interaction with all aspects of the Convention Centre. Additionally, the facility’s Exhibit Services team is available to amplify direct support for clients and exhibitors to help them realize their vision and execute successfully.
Travis Stanton, editor of EXHIBITOR Magazine, said of the recipients, “Simply by virtue of being included in this list, these facilities have proven their ability to host trade shows and events of all shapes and sizes while providing world-class service and state-of-the-art accommodations.”
